Subject: Local versus National Coverage
I continue to be puzzled by the decision of a large station such as CBS-9 in Washington DC to completely break away from network coverage in an attempt to cover the events of 9/11 locally. While I certainly understand the Pentagon is in DC, I also understand that national networks have much stronger abilites to capture and present major stories to a degree which local stations are unable to do. While I am certain all those in the DC area obtained the news they were looking for on this day, the idea that a General Manager at a local station would believe his coverage should completely eliminate national coverage on a historic news day is questionable judgement at best in my opinion.
